Strodes wins at Milroy | News, Sports, Jobs
MILROY — It’s way too early for a big game in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League, but — Strodes Mills took their record to 2-0 on Monday night by beating Milroy, 16-5, in five innings as the game was stopped by the 10 point rule.
On Wednesday, Strodes Mills will visit Reedsville at 6 p.m. Reedsville is the only other undefeated team in the league, also with a 2-0 record.
For the second game in a row. Milroy scared one of the best teams. Milroy led Reedsville 3-0 after three sets on Friday before losing 13-3.
On Monday, he led Strodes Mills 4-0 with one out in the top of the fourth inning before the wall came down again.
Strodes Mills batted 18 in the fourth and scored 14 times.
The winners finished with nine hits in the big inning and 14 for the game. Five Strodes Mills players had multiple hits for the lead by Grady Hoppel, who had three.
Evan Strohecker, Aidan Arnold, Braydon Hunter and Cody Ort each had two. Joel Beamer and Bryson Hughes had doubles with Hoppel and Arnold.
Hughes took the victory in relief. He allowed no hits, one run, walked two and struck out six. Michael McNitt pitched the first three innings and had eight strikeouts.
Milroy got a two-run single from Brayden Stitt in the second inning. Thad Gerwick had Milroy’s only other hit, a single in the third.
Belltown 13, Burnham 2
BURNHAM – Belltown had 21 hits in winning its first game of the year, beating Burnham, 13-2.
Max Weader went the distance for Belltown as he allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four.
Logan Ruth led the Belltown hitters with a perfect 4-on-4 night. Two of his hits went for two bases.
But Ruth wasn’t the only Belltown hitter on fire. Reese Christine had three hits, one for a double and the other for a home run. The long bomb was a solo shot in the seventh.
Aidan Attivo and Easton Lepley also had three successful nights. Lepley, a rookie, smashed a double and a triple.
Tristin Pent, Kyle Shirk and Weader each had two hits for Belltown.
Burnham had two hitters with multiple hits, Preston Ettinger and Jayden Smith, each with two.
