News13 Weekend Pet: Buck

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – News13 pet for the weekend of December 4-5 is Buck, a 4-year-old shepherd mix currently available for adoption at the Grand Strand Humanitarian Society.

Buck came to the shelter as a stray, according to Jessica Wnuk, the shelter’s executive director. He is a “great player” and walks well on a leash, she said.

“He’s just the cutest boy,” Wnuk said. “We think he would do very well in a family. He looks good with other dogs too. He loves everyone he meets.

Wnuk also said anyone interested in helping Buck and the other animals at the shelter can do so by dropping off donations between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

“We are very grateful for our partnership with them,” she said. “They do so much for us all year round, and they are collecting these donations for us today at PD North Oak Street.”

Lots of items are needed, but Wnuk said blankets and food are a high priority.

“Blankets, of course, but also wet dog food, wet cat food, it was very difficult for us to find them on the shelves,” she said. “So if you do your shopping and see some at the store, consider buying a crate for our animals. Because when we do our weekly shopping, it was hard for us to get enough.

The shelter continues to have several dogs available for adoption. They are now at the former shelter location at 3241 M. Joe White Avenue. Anyone wishing to adopt a dog can make an appointment online.

Anyone wishing to adopt a cat can find it at the temporary shelter location near Highway 501 at the Tanger Outlets across from Carolina Pottery in Conway. There’s also an on-site shop with items specifically for cats and kittens, Robinson said.

The shelter also continues to operate a clinic adjacent to the former location on Mr. Joe White Avenue. website.

Wnuk said officials are still looking for land to build a new permanent location for the shelter. There is a GoFundMe page set up to benefit the shelter as it continues its capital improvement fundraising campaign.
